Our Values

Our Purpose

Anyone who’s been to Lebanon has experienced its beauty entangled in chaos. Nowadays, the notions of corruption, mismanagement of resources, lack of transparency and financial difficulties have become far too familiar.

While access to rich & accurate local information & data remains challenging, we as a community have the opportunity to initiate meaningful change and facilitate progress through our drive, expertise & tools.

Open Map Lebanon’s purpose is founded on the basis of safely making data in Lebanon accessible to everyone. We believe in openly sharing local data with the public to unlock its full potential and use it for the greater good.

Our Vision

Our broader vision for the future is to instil a culture of open data in Lebanon which is built on high-quality information & insights, and advocates for transparent decision-making & data privacy.

To this end, our hope is for Open Map Lebanon to become an ever-growing community of like-minded individuals & institutions capable of positively contributing to the country.

Our Mission

As a consequence of the recent 2020 Beirut explosion, our immediate goal is to enable relief efforts by acting as a trustworthy, reliable & transparent source of data & information.

Our initiative was born from identifying duplicated gaps in the relief effort, which arose from people’s eager willingness to help one another despite the lack of government support.

By enriching the data & insights landscape and bridging these gaps, our aim is to improve the process of data-driven decision making for all entities seeking to actively rebuild a better Lebanon - from NGOs & organisations, to individuals.

Our Strategy

Aside from contributing to the work of NGOs & associations via data-sharing, modeling & 3D mapping the areas affected by the blast & beyond, Open Map Lebanon serves as a hub for academics & researchers to dive into hot topics such as Covid-19 related research, and Lebanon’s ongoing Electricity, Air Quality & Mobility issues.

To maximise on our data collection & research insights, we seek to continuously raise awareness by publicising our findings via social media platforms to the general public, and initiate educational conferences open for all.
