Did you miss out on our conference ’Beirut Blast: A Paradigm Shift in Open Geospatial Data’? We’ve got you covered!
About The Event
Bringing together practitioners working in Beirut Blast relief efforts & heritage, and those interested in fostering an open data culture.
On August 4, 2020, the devastating Beirut Blast left behind destructions of catastrophic magnitude, reducing a significant part of the city practically to ruins. In the context of crisis management and relief efforts, the importance of open geospatial data emerged as a critical ingredient for rapid, efficient, and effective crisis response. Emergency response and crisis management share a pressing need to rapidly discover, create, share, integrate, and apply geospatial data. This is where the role of open geospatial data comes in.
In this context, the GIS Center at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand in partnership with Open Map Lebanon was open for people to take part in the two-day conference: “Beirut Blast: a Paradigm Shift in Open Geospatial Data”. The conference was held on November 6 and 7, 2020.
The event aimed to capitalize on the paradigm shift by promoting open geospatial data to enable fast recovery in times of crisis. This can mitigate many of the problems faced by researchers, academics, and other organizations working in the humanitarian or development sector.
Biographies of all the speakers, moderators, organizers & trainers who joined us from major hubs around the world are HERE
